Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, professor, amateur artist, and Jimmy Buffet enthusiast, Dr. Patricia J. Boda, 71, of South Bend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 28, 2021. After chasing her dream of earning her doctorate, she was a professor of geography in Colorado, before moving to Middle Tennessee State University. Wherever she lived, she had an uncanny ability of transforming any backyard into a beautiful garden, and her artwork would enliven any room with its color and beauty. However, her grandchildren were her true passion. In recent years, her happiness was measured by the depth of joy she shared with each of them.

Patricia was born on March 16, 1950 in New Prague, MN, to the late Thomas and Marcella (David) Boda. She is survived by her daughter, Leea (Brandon) Ashfeld; three grandchildren, Damon (Erin) Schwarz, Jaxson Ashfeld, and Josephine Ashfeld; great-grandchild, Declan Schwarz; and brothers, Mark (Carla) Boda and Thomas (Mary) Boda. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jason Schwarz, and her sister, Sharon Hemmeke. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at 12:00pm at the Sgt. John Rice VFW Post 6316, 1374 109th Ave NE, Blaine, MN 55434. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made directly to the Sgt.
