SOUTH BEND - Angeline “Angie” R. Popiolek, 99, of South Bend, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Hospice House, South Bend. She was born on November 3, 1916, in South Bend, to the late Alexander and Stella (Schoen) Popiolek. She worked as a shipping clerk for the O”Brien Corporation for 40 years, before retiring in December 1980. She is survived by her three nieces, Bernadette Alwine of Ft. Wayne, IN, Bernadine Mantei of Edwardsburg, MI and Theresa Lodyga of South Bend; and by many great-nieces and great-nephews and best friends, Mary Lou and Rick Wincek of South Bend. She was preceded in death by seven sisters, Hattie Jarvis, Theresa Gajewski, Mary Goralski, Tillie Czolgosz, Helen Popiolek, Stella Horvath and Martha Popiolek; two brothers, Joseph and Casimir Popiolek; and a niece, Aliee Burke. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Stanislaus B.M. Catholic Church, South Bend. Angie never drove a car, but that never stopped her. She always took the bus to the beauty shop, appointments and shopping. She enjoyed traveling the states and abroad. While at St. Paul's, she attended activities, shopping for bargains at the mall and had faithful attendance at the beauty shop. She was proud of her heritage and west side roots. She was an elegant lady who never knew a stranger. Her faith was an important part of her life. She was a fiercely loyal Notre Dame Football fan, who enjoyed socializing, dining out and strawberry crepes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the Sanctuary at St. Paul's, 3602 S. Ironwood Dr., South Bend, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. To send online condolences, please visit www.kaniewski.com.
