SOUTH BEND - Henry G. Deranek, 90, of South Bend, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2011, in his home. He was born on January 19, 1921, in South Bend, to the late John K. and Anna (Szkielka) Deranek. On October 19, 1945, he married Helen Kundek, who preceded him in death on May 14, 2006. Henry was also preceded in death by his siblings, Aloysius, Chester and Walter Deranek, Mary Szalay and Stan Deranek. He is survived by his daughter, Margaret "Peggy" (Gary) Swink of Lansdale, PA; two sons, Michael Deranek of Rochester Hills, MI, and James Deranek of South Bend; five grandchildren, Aaron and Ian Swink, and Lea Bellando, Michael Stock and Larry Deranek; and by two great-grandchildren, Mira Stock and Zachary Christian Stock. Mr. Deranek worked as a Tool and Die Designer for Adams Engineering. He was a United States Navy veteran of WW II, and a parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame, where he was a member of the Senior Group. He enjoyed painting and drawing. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:30 pm Thursday, November 10, 2011, at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, with burial to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame.
