James C Pier, 88, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away on Monday November 28, 2016 at St. John's Hospital. He was born on February 5, 1928 in South Bend, Indiana to Frank E. and Elsie M. Benett Pier. James married the love of his life, Estelle "Pat" Yakimicki, on May 1, 1954 and she survives. Mr. Pier is also survived by three sons, Brian Pier, Brad Pier and Brett (Wendi) Pier; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two brothers, Richard and Robert Pier. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Rachel Young, Jean Wedel and Joan Blankert; one brother, Jack Pier and one step-brother, Virgil Smith. James was a dedicated and loving husband and father who was known for his keen sense of humor. James received his Bachelor's Degree from Indiana University and enjoyed a successful career as a pharmaceutical representative, retiring from Lederle Labs after thirty years of service. After retirement, James and Pat moved to Colorado Springs where they lived for twenty years before returning to Springfield. Mr. Pier was a 50 year Mason and an Ansar Shriner. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing. James was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 27 for twenty years and also assisted as a bookkeeper for both New Salem Methodist Church and Wilson United Methodist Church.
