ELKHART - Emery J. Barany, 87, of Elkhart, Indiana was taken home by loving angels on Friday evening, August 5, 2016 in Hospice House, Elkhart, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family. Emery was born on August 22, 1928 in South Bend to the late Andrew and Anne (Abraham) Barany. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1946. He went on to serve his country in the United States Navy from 1951-1955. Emery was stationed on a supply ship where he traveled to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Europe. After his Navy career, Emery attended the University of Notre Dame for 3 years. On July 24, 1959 he married Elaine Soleta. Emery is survived by his daughter, Janine M. Barany of West Palm Beach, Florida; his sister, Ann (Jim) Monserez of South Bend, Indiana; and his brother-in-law, Dudley Birder of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Emery married G. Jean VanHeesbeke in May 1997 and instantly loved her family: Leah A. (Jeff) Josselyn of Elkhart, Indiana, Scott (Sheryl) VanHeesbeke and Tom (Trish) VanHeesbeke both of South Bend, Indiana; and their children, Kira Walsh, Bre Josselyn, and Olivia, Hayley, Hannah, and Nate VanHeesbeke; and one great-grandson, Caius Walsh. Emery is also survived by his special daughter, Yan Fu (Maggie) and her husband, Wa Le (Spencer); and his puppy son, “Reggie”. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Birder; and three brothers, Andrew, Ernest, and John Barany. Emery was a self-employed businessman who owned Barany's Home Improvement, now called Barany's Windows and Doors. He was a conscientious and caring business owner. He retired in 2011. Emery was an avid Notre Dame fan. He loved to golf with his wife and friends; traveling; and attending in granchildren's events. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2016 in St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church. A visitation will take place from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:30. Visitation will also take place from 9:00 until 9:45 a.m. Wednesday in St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Center for Hospice Care, Inc. or the Alzheimer's Association .
