John Balciunas Jr, 68 years old, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend from complication with COVID-19. John lived in South Bend the majority of his adult life retiring from Nipsco as a meter reader / supervisor. Johnny, as his family called him, loved his surviving brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. John’s passions included bodybuilding, music appreciation, both marine and freshwater tropical fish, driving his Corvette and finding new great restaurants to eat at. Johnny was born 3 months premature at Lewis Memorial Hospital October 20, 1952 in Chicago Illinois to John and Petronilla Balciunas and grew up in a Lithuanian neighborhood. Johnny with his brothers and sister where second generation in the United States. Paternal grandparents Andrew and Anna, maternal grandparents Gabriel and Petronilla where Lithuanian immigrants. The family moved to Northwest Indiana. After graduating high school, Johnny began working for Nipsco, took college courses for his associates degree and eventually moved to South Bend. Due to physical challenges later in life, Johnny found a home at Healthwin rehabilitation and assisted-living facility in South Bend where he was loved and received stellar care.Johnny was the oldest boy of seven children, second oldest to his surviving sister Christine Lyerla who lives in Marcella, Arkansas, sister Stephanie Balciunas with husband Richard who live in Lowell Indiana, then his brother Paul Balciunas who lives in Mountain View, Arkansas, his brother Jerry Balciunas and wife Dawn who live in Niceville, Florida, his brother Tony Balciunas and wife Stacy who live in East Berlin, Pennsylvania and his brother Peter Balciunas and wife Patricia who live in Melbourne, Florida. Father John passed in 1990 and mother Petronilla passed in 2001 both located in St. Augustine, Florida.Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the Balciunas family will have a celebration of life at a later date. The Balciunas family would like to thank the nurses of Heart to Heart Hospice, the nurses of Memorial Hospital and the caregivers at Healthwin who helped Johnny through some very difficult times.
