Gene T. Slott
Feb. 10, 1925 - Aug. 5, 2013
SOUTH BEND - Longtime South Bend resident Gene T. Slott quietly passed away at her daughter Kathryn (Dana) Carpenter's home on Monday, August 5 in Northampton, MA. She was born Genevieve T. Kush on February 10, 1925 to Stanley and Catherine Kush, also of South Bend, and was the wife of the late Casimir (Casey) B. Slott. They had been happily married for 64 years, until his death in October, 2012. Mrs. Slott was "the classic" post-WWII stay-at-home Mom, a cross between June Cleaver and Maude. Gene will be remembered for her rock-solid faith, personality and conservative values. She was strong-willed and opinionated, never short on words, or shy about sharing her feelings on countless topics. Gene was a star on her South Bend Bowling League team, and a favorite partner of her Bridge buddies, a game in which she excelled. Mrs. Slott was also a tireless and outstanding home cook, known among family and friends for her delicious recipes. Over the years, she became an avid sports fan, following all the Chicago professional teams and her favorite college football team, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. And on a cold, quiet winter evening, you could always find Gene in front of a warm fire, under a quilt - that she made herself, of course! - with a book in hand. Fictional novels were her readings of choice. In addition to her daughter, Kathryn, she is also survived by a daughter, Elizabeth (James) Lawton of Conway, MA; two sons, Michael (Amy) Slott of Long Grove, IL and Casey (Leslie) Slott of Wheaton, IL; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
