SOUTH BEND - Mary R. Botka, 89, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 9:07 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010, in The Sanctuary at Holy Cross. Mary was born on March 15, 1921, in South Bend, IN, to Michael and Elizabeth (Saglet) Fuzy, and was a lifelong area resident. She retired from the former Bendix Corporation where she was employed for 27 years. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley (Michael) Kucharski of Granger, IN, and Janet (Kevin) Kelly of Roxboro, NC; two sons, Louis E. Botka Jr. and Stephen Paul Botka, both of South Bend, IN; five grandchildren, S. Scott Botka, Brian Kucharski, David Kucharski, Amanda Polander and Rachel Kelly; one brother, Michael Fuzy of South Bend, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by two sisters, Irma and Elizabeth; and by three siblings as children, Anna, Gaza and Michael. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Burial followed at Highland Cemetery. Friends visited with the family from 4 until 6 p.m. Monday, January 3, in the funeral home. Mary loved music and art. She was a wonderful artist and loved to play the piano.
