Beloved mother and grandmother, Mary "Fran" Boyce, 88, residing in South Bend, passed away at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2011 in her home. She was born in Washington, DC on October 6, 1922 to the late John and Nellie (McHale) Cahill. On June 4, 1949 in Washington, DC, she married William P. Boyce, who preceded her in death on November 10, 2004. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Lynn Schurr and her sister, Pat Sullivan. Fran has lived in the South Bend area since 1958, coming from Kalamazoo, MI. She retired as a secretary from the South Bend Community School Corporation in 1986 after twelve years. Fran was a member of the Audubon Society of South Bend as well as St. Augustine Catholic Church. She proudly served her country during World War II with the United States Marine Corp. Fran is survived by four daughters, Susan (Richard) Lobb of Fairfax, VA, Julie (Greg) Deka of South Bend, Joan (Raymond) Nowak of Holland, MI and Trish (Phil Owen) Boyce of Baldwin, IL; three sons, Will P. Boyce, Jr. of South Bend, Donald Boyce of Naperville, IL and Jeffrey (Jan) Boyce of California, MD; ten grandchildren; and three brothers, Jack Cahill of New Bern, NC, Tom Cahill of Ashburn, VA and Bob Cahill of Palos Verdes, CA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2011 in St. Augustine Catholic Church, 1501 W. Washington Street, South Bend, IN 46619. Private burial will take place at a later date in Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 25 in Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46614 as well as one hour prior to mass at church on Monday.
