SOUTH BEND - Julius N. "Danny" Farkas, 99, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2012 in the Sanctuary at St. Paul's. Julius was born on September 30, 1913 in South Bend to Frank Farkas, Sr. and Helen (Molnar) Farkas, and was a lifelong resident. He retired from Drewrys Brewery in 1972. He then worked as a greenskeeper at Elbel Golf Course. On June 10, 1939, in Our Lady of Hungary Church, he married Ann Agnes Szalay, who preceded him in death on March 23, 2002. Also preceding him in death was his daughter, Julie Ann Farkas Rodbarry; one sister, Rose Fisk; and two brothers, Frank Farkas and Paul Fodroczi. Survivors include two sons, Daniel (Joyce) Farkas of Prior Lake, MN and Fredrick (Cynthia) Farkas of Clarendon Hills, IL; one son-in-law, Glenn Rodbarry; seven grandchildren, Paul (Bonnie) Farkas of Burnsville, MN, Mark Farkas of Mankato, MN, Alison (Brian) Whisenhunt of Farmington Hills, MI, David (Janeen) Farkas of Overland Park, KS, Joseph (Kristine) Farkas of Chicago, IL, Taylor Rodbarry of Roselle, IL and Lea Rodbarry of Roselle, IL; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Lambick of South Bend, IN; two brothers, Joseph Farkas of Vandalia, MI and Stephen (Barbara) Fodroczi of Granger, IN; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 29, 2012 in Corpus Christi Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Sunday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Julius was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, where he was an usher and a Trustee. He had been the Secretary and Treasurer of the Union at Drewey's Brewery. Julius was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed gardening. He was a proclaimed amateur winemaker.
