Gerald "Jerry O" Olejniczak
Nov. 3, 1939 - Sept. 16, 2015
SOUTH BEND - Gerald "Jerry O" Olejniczak, 75, of South Bend left this world on Wednesday, September 16th, at Signature Health Care, South Bend, with the knowledge that life was a daily struggle that he faced as they arose. Jerry O was born on November 3, 1939, in South Bend, to the late Stanley and Bernadette (Jankow-ski) Olejniczak. Mr. Olejniczak is survived by a sister, Kathy (John) Gastenau of Raleigh, NC; a brother, Jim Ollin of Elkhart; several nieces and nephews; and his good friend, Michael Otolski of South Bend. Jerry O was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Evelyn, and an aunt, Nettie Schuh. My time here has brought me joys and sorrows. I leave hoping I brought friendship and compassion for others as our paths crossed, whether it be at work, The South Bend Parks and Recreation for 34 years or other organizations I've been a part of. I hope you remember me with a smile or a laugh when you hear a song or see someone doing a kind gesture. Jerry O's wishes were to be cremated and his family and friends have honored those wishes. A private family service will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. The family requests that all memorial contributions be to South Bend Parks and Recreation, 321 E. Walter Street, South Bend, IN 46614; or South Bend Animal Shelter, 105 E. Olive Street, South Bend, IN 46619. Condolences may be expressed online through our website: www.hanleyandsonsfuneralhomes.com. The HANLEY & Sons Funeral Home & Cremation Service handled arrangements and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to Jerry O's family. Published in South Bend Tribune on Sept. 20, 2015
