Lars “Butch” Wallace Sr., 85 years old, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022 at his residence in South Bend. Butch was born October 24, 1936 in South Bend, to the late Glenn and Wanda (Alexander) Wallace. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann Wallace; second wife, Carol (Williams) Wallace; brothers, Joe Max and Kaye Don; and his sister, Donna Star. Left to cherish the memory of Butch is his son, Lars (Melissa) Wallace, Jr; and brother, Glenn Wallace, Jr. Butch was a lifelong resident of South Bend. He honorable served his nation in the United States Navy for 4 years during the Korean War. He helped set sail out on the USS Worcester as well as on board the USS Hooper. He even has 2 memorial bricks representing his time on each of those ships at the Honor Park at the South Bend Airport. After his service, he returned to South Bend and worked as a Machinist for over 30 years for South Bend Automatic before retiring. Butch loved was a great man with a great sense of humor. He loved to travel and was able to see much of the US with his second wife, Carol. Butch loved cars and loved going to car shows. During the 80s and 90s, Butch would take his 1938 Chevy every weekend to attend a car show. However, his favorite car was a Corvette. He was a part of the Corvette Club for 10 years. One of his last memories was when the Corvette Club and Mission BBQ, one of his favorite restaurants, hosted a living memorial parade that drove by his home. He even purchased a 1988 Corvette that is now donated and on permanent display at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. The Corvette was driven during the Miss America Pageant. Per the family, there will be no services at this time. Per Butch’s request, he will be returned to the earth by being scattered at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco as he was stationed at Treasure Island as one of his ports of call.
