Emile DeVreese

MISHAWAKA - Emile A. DeVreese, 95, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 11, 2014. Emile was born on April 20, 1919, in Mishawaka, as the son of Basiel and Lentine (Nieuwland) De Vreese. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Valarie Stevens, and one brother, Julius DeVreese. On June 7, 1947, in Mishawaka, he married the former Verna Kunce; she preceded him in death on January 11, 2012. Emile is survived by his daughter, Tanya (Ken) Kirchner of Florissant, MO, and one son, Robert (Rhonda) De Vreese of Mishawaka; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Emile was a lifelong resident of Mishawaka. He worked for Wheelabrator Corporation in Mishawaka for forty-one years before his retirement. He was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, the BK Club, and of many Belgian Bolleing Leagues throughout the club. Emile proudly served his country during WW II in the United States Army, receiving a Silver Star and a Bronze Star for his service. He was also a member of V.F.W. Post 360 in Mishawaka, and was a former Boy Scout Leader. Family and friends may visit from 2 to 6 on Sunday, June 15, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 16, at 10:00 am in the funeral home, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Emile's family would like to acknowledge the Wheelabrator Corporation, now Honeywell, for all of their support following his retirement.
