SOUTH BEND, IN - Rose Chmiel, 91, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 12:42 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2019, in Memorial Hospital. Rose was born on November 17, 1927 in East Chicago, Indiana to Isador and Mary (Samchuck). She had been employed for 20 years as an accountant and office manager for Bill Sherman Buick in Michigan City. She then worked for City Supply in Michigan City as an office manager for 10 years. On June 21, 1947 she married Marion M. Chmiel, who preceded her in death on August 7, 1990. Rose was also preceded in death by her brother, George Shkroba; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Shkroba. Rose is survived by her daughter, Barbara Chmiel of South Bend, Indiana; two sons, Thomas (Annette) Chmiel of Cincinnati, Ohio and Gregory (Joan) Chmiel of Destin, Florida; six grandchildren, Derek (Stephanie) Carr, Melanie (David) Artibani, Amy (Aaron) Nedd, Christopher (Michelle) Chmiel, Candice Schierloh, and Melanie Weisser; and seven great-grandchildren, Taylor Rose Artibani, Griffin Chmiel, Hazel Chmiel, Carley Weisser, Connor Weisser, Eva Marie Nedd, and James Marion Nedd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2019, in St. Pius X Church. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Vigil Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. A visitation will also be held from 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. Friday in the church. Rose was a member of St. Pius X parish, where she was a former member of the Resurrection Choir. She was a very generous person who liked to volunteer at hospitals and nursing homes.
