Patricia Joyce Swihart Zanka, 75 of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 12:57 am Sunday, November 26, 2017 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. On June 19, 1942, she was born in Connersville, Indiana to Keith and Nedra (Ervin) Gillum. She was united in marriage to John Zanka on October 11, 1997, who survives. Patricia was raised in Connersville and then lived most of her adult life in the South Bend area. She received her Nursing Degree at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. She worked as a R.N. for Notre Dame Health Center for at least fifteen years. She was an amazing nurse and was loved and highly respected by the staff and students. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She loved working with and advocating for children. Patricia is survived by her husband of twenty years, John Zanka, South Bend; three daughters, Jessanna (Jayme) Mitchell, Walkerton, Lisa (Henry) Brunner, South Bend and Lori (Tim) Shively, Etna Green; two sons, Michael (Katherine) Swihart, Wheaton, Illinois and Andy Swihart and his wife Judy McAtee, Midland, Michigan; thirteen grandchildren, Rachel, Ethan, Emeline, Cameron, Cole, Gabrielle, Kirsten, Kassy, Arielle, Eamon, Hannah, Colin, Keegan and one great granddaughter, Mia. She is also survived by her brother, Ronald K, Gillum Connersville and preceded in death by her parents and by Danny Dale Swihart. She was a loving, amazing and wonderful Wife, Mother and Grandma, who brought joy to everyone she met. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Church of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 915 North Olive Street, South Bend, Indiana 46628 with The Reverend Terri Bays officiating. Burial will be privately held at Highland Cemetery, South Bend on Thursday. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 pm Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Church of the Holy Trinity.
