MISHAWAKA - Matthew G. Bauters, 62, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 after an extended illness. Matthew was born on December 27, 1954 in South Bend to Clarence and Adeline “Dolly” (Kulwicki) Bauters. He is preceded in death by his father, Clarence. On December 29, 1989, in Albright United Methodist Church, he married the love of his life, Bettina “Tina” Roach. She is left to cherish his memory. He is also survived by his mother, Dolly; children, Tiffany (Matthew) Austin of North Carolina and Shawn (Jessica) Slaven of Texas; sisters, Nancy (Michael) Kochanowski of North Liberty, Geraldine (Joseph) Steenbeck of Ft. Myers, FL and Celeste (John) Dooms of North Liberty; sister-in-law, Celynda (Brian Pete) Roach of Boise, ID; brother-in-law, Kevin (Diana) Roach of Muncie, IN; and two grandsons.Matt was a 1973 graduate of Mishawaka High school. He went on to serve in the Indiana National Guard and became the owner of his own business, Matt's Service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post #365. After retiring, Matt traded in his wrenches for spatulas. He loved to cook for his family and friends. Matt was also an avid gardener, golfer and fisherman. His home-cooked meals, served with a warm smile, will be fondly remembered. Visitation for Matt will be on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th. St., Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 10:00 am in St. Bavo's Catholic Church. Father Vincent Joseph will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #365 in North Liberty.
