[N9981] Melvina Marie Young
Sep. 8, 1917 - Apr. 20, 2016
MISHAWAKA - Melvina Marie Young, 98, passed away peacefully April 20, 2016, in her home with her daughters by her side. Melvina, the last of thirteen children, was born on September 8, 1917, to Ladislaum and Praxeda (Lewinski) Andrysiak. Preceding her in death were her parents and four brothers, Arthur Andrews, Raymond, John and Robert Andrysiak. Also preceding her were her eight sisters, Emma Haines, Eleanore Allen, Natalie Andrysiak, Frances Vargo, Jean Hunt, Florence Andrews, Stephanie Andrews and Bernice Kwiatt. She met Homer Young at a church dance, and after dating for several years, they were married on December 28, 1946. They had 48 beautiful years together before his passing in October of 1994. Melvina is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Bickel of Mishawaka and Gail Tschida (John) of South Bend; three grandchildren, Matthew Bickel of Mishawaka, Andrew Tschida ( Danielle) of Fishers, IN, and Erin Fairchild ( Brad) of Roanoke, IN. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Hailee and Hunter Bickel, and Liam and Drew Tschida. Melvina's mother passed away when she was eight years old, and as her older sisters left home, she began a lifetime of care giving. As an adult, she was caregiver to her father, aunt, mother-in-law, brother, sister, and eventually her husband. Our mother had a great love of life; she enjoyed dancing, reading, swimming and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. After our father passed away, she embraced travel with her daughters and granddaughters, taking trips to Hawaii, Alaska, British Isles, Norway, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and Mexico. Always ready for adventure in any port. We would like to express our deep felt gratitude to the staff of Harbor Light Hospice who have made sure that Mom was comfortable in her final week and for all the support they gave our family. Funeral services will be held at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka, IN, at 10:00am on Saturday where friends will be received from 4 until 7 pm on Friday. Officiating the services will be Msgr. Bruce Piechocki of St. Monica Catholic Church. Burial will follow the services on Saturday at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Mom's favorite charity, St. Joseph Indian School, PO Box 326, Chamberlain, SD 57326.
