NILES - Irene Chisek, 97, of Niles, and previously of Eau Claire, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017. Irene was born on February 24, 1920, to the late Vincent and Matilda (Kohut) Sromek in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from high school Irene went on to wed Stanley James Chisek at a ceremony in Chicago on June 30, 1946. While in Chicago Irene worked for the Babe Ruth Candy Company and the Defense Plant. After Irene and Stanley started their family they moved to a small farm in Eau Claire, Michigan. As time went on she spent her time working on the family farm and raising her children. When they were grown she became a secretary and worked at Farm Bureau, Berrien General Hospital, and Eau Claire High School. Irene enjoyed traveling and volunteering during her free time. She developed a sense of pride from her volunteerism and shared that with others. She volunteered with the St. Mark Altar and Rosary Society, Fernwood Botanical Gardens, Pawating Hospital, Red Cross Blood Drives, and the Niles Senior Center. Above all of that, Irene loved her family. She enjoyed family get-togethers and took pleasure in cooking and baking for everyone in her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Anne Kozlowski, Vincent Chisek, and Helen Micholack. Irene is survived by her children, Joyce (Ronald) Bailey of Niles, Judy (Steve) Schilling of Eau Claire, Greg (Cindy) Chisek of Eau Claire, Alan (Linda) Chisek of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; grandchildren, Michelle (Kevin) Mesler, Nichole (John) Pikur, Kenneth (Brooke) Bailey, Benjamin (Bae) Schilling, Mark (Abby) Schilling, Stephanie (Aaron) Knight, Sarah Schilling, Christopher (Shelley) Chisek, Jonathan (Elizabeth) Chisek, Nicholas (Amy) Chisek, Michael (Andrea) Chisek and Kevin (Jessica) Chisek; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Savannah, Cameron, Logan, Brody, Carson, Dane, Ella, Sawyer, Lincoln, Scarlet, Sienna, Lola, Beckett, Bronco, Colton, Ryan, Andrew, Grace, Connor, Aidan, Quinn, Collin, Maxwell, Spencer, Anya, Keira, Jacob, and Evan; siblings, Stephanie Raczka of Illinois and William (Marjorie) Sromek of Missouri; and many extended family members and close friends. A Mass of Christian Burial for Irene will be celebrated at St. Mark Catholic Church at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017, by the Rev. Thomas King, C.S.C., and assisted by Brother Dennis Meyers, C.S.C. A time of visitation will be held on Saturday at Brown Funeral Home in Niles from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with The Rosary at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Irene's memory to St. Mark Catholic Church or to the Niles Senior Center.Condolences, photos, and memories may be left for the family at www.BrownFuneralHomeNiles.com.
