===============

Elizabeth (Gartner) Forstinger, 90, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side at LifeCare Center of LaGrange at 5:30pm on Friday, June 12, 2015. Elizabeth was born on October 28, 1924 in Ivankovo, Croatia. During World War II, when she was only 19 years old, her family moved as refugees to Upper-Austria where she served as a Red Cross nurse near the end of World War II. In 1952, Elizabeth married her husband, Wilhelm Forstinger before moving their family to the United States and settling in South Bend, IN in 1969. Elizabeth gave birth and dedicated her life to her six surviving children: Peter (Grete) Lotz of Vienna, Austria, Hans (Margit) Gartner of Vienna, Austria, Brigitte Forstinger of Shipshewana, Marianne (Gordon) Stock of Elkhart, Wilhelm (Daniella) Forstinger of South Bend, and Helm ut Fostinger of South Bend. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Peter Lotz, Sonya Lotz, Nikolas Karner, Laurenz Gartner, Claudia Shepley, Elizabeth Faletic, Maria Wilson, Jennifer Gilbert, Gordon Stock, Ilona Lehman, Will Forstinger, Helmut Forstinger, Kerry Forstinger and her 21 great-grandchildren. Family has always been of utmost importance to Elizabeth and everyone knew she would do anything within her power for them and this has become a virtue that is now passed down to the next generation. Elizabeth loved music and dancing, especially to the sounds of her homeland. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed having her house filled with family eating the delicious food she prepared and no one would want to miss a meal made by her. She never lost her fantastic sense of humor and always made people laugh throughout her days. She was loved and cherished by all who met her and will be missed by many. She was preceeded in death by both her parents and her husband who have been reunited with her. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, June 18th from 4pm-8pm at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St. Middlebury, IN 46540, or on Friday, June 19th from 4pm-8pm at Zahoran funeral Home, 1826 South Kemble Ave., South Bend, IN 46613. Funeral services will be held at Zahoran Funeral Home on Saturday, June 20th at 10am. She will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery following funeral services. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at LifeCare Center of LaGrange and Heartland Hospice Care for their exemplary care and compassion during this time.
