DOWAGIAC - Marion Leo Hart, 89, of Dowagiac, was born on February 1, 1919, in Dowagiac, to Clyde and Grace (Dodd) Hart. He passed away on December 5, 2008, in his home after battling cancer for a year-and-a-half. Marion graduated from Dowagiac Central High School in 1936. He worked for the A&P Grocery in Dowagiac, Allegan, Otsego and Constantine. He then went to work for the Post Office in 1944. Marion
walked the city route for 29 years and then did a rural route for 10 years. He retired in 1983. Marion went on to work for Dowagiac Automotive for five years. He was united in marriage on August 1, 1948, to the former Catherine Rowe in Dowagiac. Marion's passion in life was his family and friends. He was an avid golfer and bowler .He played in the "Old Men's League" at the Elks Golf Club where he and his partner, Kenny Bailey, won many tournaments. He also loved to work in his yard and garden. He even planted a tree this last summer while taking treatment. He also loved
crossword and jigsaw puzzles, computer games, NASCAR, and playing cards with friends, and playing cards every Friday night with his wife and son Jim and his wife Peggy. He always looked forward to Friday nights! Marion was always smiling and cracking jokes and will be deeply missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Catherine of Dowagiac, two sons, Lee (Dr. Susan Atamian) Hart of Sartell, MN, and James (Peggy) Hart of Decatur; four grandchildren, Anya Richey, Matthew, Joshua and David Hart; two sisters, Alma Peters of Dowagiac and Marjorie Johnson of Gladwin, MI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William and Jack Hart. Marion's family will gather with friends on Tuesday from 1 p.m . to 3 p.m. in McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home where his service will begin at 3 p.m., led
by Deacon Frank Wesolowski of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery. The family would appreciate memorial donations be made to Borgess Visiting Nurse and Hospice, Council on Aging or the West Michigan Cancer Center.
