SOUTH BEND - H.B. “Jack” Swope, age 75 of South Bend, passed away at his home on Friday, May 20, 2016. Jack was born November 7, 1940, in South Bend, to the late Horace B. and Velma (Vantine) Swope. On December 14, 1968, he married Lorraine Zawierucha in Roseland, Indiana. Lorraine survives along with their children, Jack L. (Laura) Swope, Dan Swope, Sonny (Jessica) Swope, Chris (Mike) Bayne, Laurie (Rich) Day and Dawn (Jeremaine) Rice, all of South Bend. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Betty Rainwater of South Bend, B. Dean (Cleata) Swope of Warsaw and Donald (Dolly) Swope of Florida. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maria Swope, and his brothers, Horace B., Richard, William & Danny Swope. There will be a private celebration of his life. Elkhart Cremation Service is entrusted with his care. Jack enlisted in the US Air Force and served honorably until his discharge in 1963. He was employed throughout the area and worked many years at D&W of Elkhart, where he was a supervisor. Jack loved the outdoors and spent time fishing, camping and hunting. He was an avid Notre Dame sports fan, following the men's and women's teams, as well as the Chicago Cubs.
