SOUTH BEND - Leona Holewinski, 94, of South Bend, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2011, in the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility, South Bend. She was born on November 15, 1917, in South Bend, to the late Micheal and Mary (Piasecki) Komasinski, and was a lifelong area resident. On April 6, 1940, as Leona Komasinski, she married Stanley Holewinski, who preceded her in death on February 6, 1976. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Genevieve Bognar, and a brother, Theodore Cummins. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Clarence) Kaminski of South Bend; two grandchildren, Brian (Julie) Kaminski of Noblesville, IN, and Deborah (Steve) Gray of Valparaiso, IN; and by three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Eric and Andrea Kaminski. Mrs. Holewinski was a parishioner of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, South Bend, where she was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She was a member of the Townhouse Breakfast Club, former member of Polish Business Women's Society. Leona was an excellent cook and baker, and loved to spoil her grandchildren with chocolate chip cookies. She also enjoyed knitting and would make dishtowels for all of her family. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Monday, December 26, 2011, in the Kaniewski Funeral Homes, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 6 PM. Funeral services for Leona will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, December 27, 2011, in the funeral home, with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery.
