Steve J. Karras, 91, of 270 E. David St., Roseland, died Saturday afternoon in his home. Mr. Karras was the former owner of Washington Shoe Repair and founded Michiana Beverages Inc. in 1937. He was born May 26, 1896, in Ordu, Turkey, and had lived in South Bend since 1918, coming from Canton, Ohio. On Feb. 13, 1936,in Athens, Greece, he married Joanna Simionides. She died in 1949. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Shaia of South Bend; a son, S. Andrew of Raleigh, N.C.; and three grandchildren. He had been the last surviving founder of St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church, a charter member of AHEPA, and a life member of Benevolent Protective Order of Elks 235.
