MISHAWAKA - Mom's dream came true Sunday night, when God called her home to spend eternity with Him and the love of her life, her husband, Art. She passed away at 7:04 pm in her home at the Hearth at Juday Creek in Mishawaka. She was born Helen May Vogel on May 29, 1926, in Mishawaka, to Arthur and Dora (Lieske) Vogel. Helen was employed by Bendix and Sears. She was a member of the former St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, its Altar & Rosary Society and Choir. On October 22, 1949, she married Arthur Tschida. He died on July 20, 2002. Helen was also preceded in death by two brothers: Charles Vogel and Arthur Vogel; and four sisters: Ann Werner, Gertrude Woodard, Agnes Tiedge and Doris Misch. Cherishing her memory are her children: Kenneth (Sue) Tschida of Leesburg, VA, Patricia (Martin) Gersey of South Bend and Ellen Jenning of Mishawaka. Mom was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren are Jacquelyn Tschida, Kenneth (Kaycee) Tschida, Katherine (Michael) Stanbridge, David (Courtney) Gersey, Daniel (Melody) Gersey, Emily (Cody) McAuley, Elizabeth (Tom) Kronewitter, Sara Jenning and Michael Jenning. Her 8 great-grandchildren are Christian, Trenton, Bailey, Braelyn, Madelyn, Preston, Cameron and Calaway. Mom is also survived by her sister, Patricia Biesbrouck of northern Michigan; her brother, Gerald (Marlene) Vogel of South Bend; and three sisters-in-law: Pauline Tschida, Joan Tschida and Dorothy Van Paris. Mom's passion in life was her husband and family. She loved to cross-stitch, and we all cherish the many beautiful creations made with her own hands. Mom had a beautiful voice and loved to sing in the church choir. She and Dad harmonized perfectly, in every way! Mom was full of life and energy, and always had a smile to give. Family and friends may call from 2-8 pm on Thursday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 South Kemble Avenue, South Bend, where a Rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Friday, March 7, 2014, in St. Jude Catholic Church in South Bend. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the American Diabetes Association .
