Adam S. Ziegler, 88, passed away April 7 at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Franklin. He and his wife Rosalie have resided in Franklin since 1980 and were former residents of Rochester. Adam S. Ziegler, son of Sebastian and Margaret (Koble) Ziegler, was born Feb. 10, 1923, in Drake, N.D. He was raised in the Karlsruhe, N.D., area, where he received his education. Adam served his country during World War II and survived the Battle of Bulge. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in June 1946. His awards included the European-African Middle Eastern Theater and the Good Conduct Medal and Army of Occupation Medal in Germany. Adam married Rosalie Bollaerts on March 12, 1946, at Holy Heart Catholic Church, Antwerp, Belgium. Adam retired in 1985 from the Rural Electric Membership Association as an operations manager with 40 years of service. For many years Adam enjoyed hunting and playing Legion baseball. He also enjoyed watching all sports. He and his wife Rosalie have enjoyed many trips throughout the U.S. and Europe. Adam was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 205, Franklin, where he received The American Legion Certificate for 60 Years Continuous Membership. He was also a longtime member of the Franklin Elks Lodge BPOE 818 and the Franklin Moose Lodge No. 17.
Adam is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Rosalie; three daughters, Gladys Macy (Rodger) Geneva, Ill., Dianne Ziegler, South Bend, Carmen Kaouk (Fred) Naples, Fla.; son James Ziegler, Rochester; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward (Lorraine) Ziegler, Minot, N.D., and Henry (Patty) Ziegler, Durant, Okla.; three sisters, Katherine (Edward) Ganje, Minot, N.D., Helen (Virgil) Frost, Minot, N.D., and Frances Carroll, Minot, N.D.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by parents; brothers, John, Joseph, Daniel, Alex and Conrad; and sister Magdalen VanEeckhout
