Darlene (Dolly) Caroline Berndt, 83, of South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully surrounded by her immediate family on March 4, 2021 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Philip Berndt. She was born Sept. 1, 1937 in South Bend, IN, the oldest daughter of the late John D. and Genevieve (Stachowiak) Olden. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jacqueline Kurdys. She is survived by her sister Adrianne (Frank) Oliver. She is also survived by her daughters, Debra (Joseph) Markovich, Katherine Berndt, Juliann (Bernard) Sparazynski and son, Jeffrey (Greg) Berndt, 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Dolly graduated from Washington High School. She retired from the State of Indiana Welfare Dept. after 25 years of service. Dolly loved to spend time with her family most of all, loved to cook, was an avid Face Booker, cookbook collector, loved to talk politics, and in her spare time gardening, fishing, crochet, and reading. Visitation will be at St. Joseph funeral home on Mayflower Rd. on Wednesday, March 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Funeral to follow. Condolences for the family can be made at www.sjfh.net.
