MISHAWAKA - Diane R. Smanda, age 74, passed away peacefully in the early morning on Sunday, July 2, 2017. Diane worked as a secretary for AM General for 25 years, and she was a member of the Red Hat Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family at Magician Lake throughout her life, and she could always be found in her garden. Diane was born March 26, 1943, in South Bend, IN, to Julius S. and Alice M. (Micinski) Rems, who preceded Diane in death. She was married to Carl J. Smanda on July 6, 1969, in South Bend, IN; Carl preceded Diane in death on September 13, 2013. Diane is survived by her daughter, Shelly (Phil Porman) Siade of Culver, IN; son, Scott (Karen) Siade of South Bend, IN; three grandchildren, Steven, Derrick and Meredith Siade; sister, Juanita Myers of West Palm Beach, FL; and brothers, Eric (Bernadine) Rems of San Diego, CA, and Rudy Rems of Estero, FL. Diane was preceded in death by parents, and brother, Dale Rems.Cremation services will be held privately.
