BREMEN - Lois Marie Gushwa, 101 years old, passed away peacefully at 12:11 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Signature Health Care, Bremen, IN. Mrs. Gushwa was born on November 21, 1916 in Marshall County, IN to the late Oliver and Bertha (Huff) Eslinger. She has remained a resident of Bremen for the past 70 years. On June 27, 1936 in St. Joseph County, IN, Lois and John Welcome Gushwa were united in marriage. John preceded her in death on March 24ΒΈ, 1998. Mrs. Gushwa was also preceded in death by her infant son, Roger Gushwa, in 1941; son-in-law, Jeri Gurtner, on August 10, 2017; and two sisters, Ruth Stuber and Esther (Heckaman) Haney.Mrs. Gushwa is survived by her two daughters, Elaine (Douglas) Snyder and Patsy Ann Gurtner, both of Bremen; five grandchildren, Greg (Deb) Gurtner, Troy (Carla) Gurtner, Brent (Linda) Snyder, Chris (Cari) Snyder, and Brenda (Jon) Gawthrop; eleven great-grandchildren, Marci (Phil) Wicks, Kelsey Gurtner, Cameron Gurtner, Sara (Denny) Gurtner, Zachary Gurtner, Brooke Snyder, Luke Snyder, Collin Snyder, Chandler Snyder, Madeline Gawthrop, and Morgan Gawthrop; and one great-great-granddaughter, Hadley Wicks.Mrs. Gushwa has been a faithful member of Bremen United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and volunteered in several other areas of the church. She was also a member of Marshall County Homemakers Club and a graduate of Madison High School. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker, while helping her husband on the farm. Mrs. Gushwa enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, and camping. She loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid prayer warrior. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the Bremen United Methodist Church, 302 W. Plymouth Street, Bremen, IN. Graveside services and burial will follow at Bremen Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Palmer Funeral Home in Lakeville is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Lois M. Gushwa may be donated to the Bremen United Methodist Church, 302 W. Plymouth Street, Bremen, IN 46506; or to Great Lakes Hospice, 334 Enterprise Drive, Warsaw, IN 46580. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
