ELKHART - Mr. Terry L. Horein, 79, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully following an extended illness at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at 1:45 am. He was born February 14, 1938, in Mishawaka, to the late John M. and Harriett “Louise” (Crofoot) Horein. On Aug. 25, 1957, he married Kathryn “Kay” Olsen in Wakarusa. She survives at home. Also surviving are his sons, Douglas Horein of Niles, MI, and David (Celeste) Horein of Granger; daughters, Deborah (Steve) Kildow of Ft. Myers Beach, FL, and Donna (Brett) Schrock of Dowelltown, TN; brothers, Rex (Julie) Horein of Wakarusa, Donn (Billie) Horein of Nappanee, Dennis (Karen) Horein of Zephyrhills, FL, Tom (Brenda) Horein of Elkhart and Tim Horein of Pennsylvania; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, with one on the way! Terry was also recently preceded in death by his longtime furry friend and companion Winston, his boxer. Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart is honored to host the celebration of Terry's life beginning with a viewing on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, from 4-8 pm. Then on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, funeral services will be held at the Elkhart Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3601 E. Bristol St., Elkhart, at 11:00 am, with visitation beginning there at 10 am. Pastor Don Grulick and the Rev. Thruster Thorderson will officiate, and cremation will follow the services. Terry was a building contractor by trade most of his life, but was also a real estate broker as well. He had owned and operated Terry Horein Builders and the Real Estate Center (both of Granger) for many years. He was also the former president of the St. Joseph County Home Builders Assn. and had previously belonged to the South Bend / Mishawaka Board of Realtors. He was also an accomplished pilot and had owned several aircraft over the years, including one which was featured in the 1965 James Bond movie “Goldfinger.”
Memorial donations may be given to the Elkhart Seventh-day Adventist Christian School, c/o the church, or to the Elkhart Faith Mission.
