SOUTH BEND - Gertrude Marie (Gorski) Wettergren, age 94, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015, in Lake Placid Health Care Center, Lake Placid, FL. She was born on September 5, 1920, to the late Michael and Laura (Guzicki) Gorski in South Bend, IN, and had been a lifelong area resident until moving to Florida three years ago. Gertrude retired from the Department of Public Welfare in South Bend, IN. On November 23, 1939, as Gertrude Marie Gorski, she married Edward F. Wettergren at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. Edward passed away on November 5, 2000. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Anne (Raymond) McKenzie of Sebring, FL, and Margaret L. (Ernest "Duke") Smith of Indianapolis, IN; a son, Michael E. Wettergren of South Bend, IN; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was a former member of Sacred Heart Parish at the University of Notre Dame; a member of Polish Women's Alliance; Ladies of the Elk's Auxiliary; and the Z.B. Falcons Nest #80. Family and friends may visit from 4 8 p.m. today, February 19, 2015, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:30 a.m. Friday, February 20, 2015, at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
