SOUTH BEND - Mary Kalka, 88, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, at 2:30 a.m. in the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility. Mary was born on December 3, 1918, in South Bend, to the late Casimer and Helen (Stempin) Wieczorek. On May 1, 1948, she married Bernie Kalka in South Bend, who preceded her in death on March 11, 1993. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bert and Chester Wieczorek. She is survived by her two children, Patricia (Wayne) Merrill of South Bend and Michael (Judy Hartman) Kalka; three grandchildren, Melissa (Chad) Bailey, Chris (Angie) Merrill and Matthew Kalka; two great-grandchildren, Carissa and Lucas Merrill; a sister, Verna Dzialakiewicz of South Bend; and her brother, Frank (Dorothy) Wieczorek of South Bend. Mary was a parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, and worked for RACO. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 2505 W. Grace St., South Bend, IN 46619; or to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. The family would like to say Thank You to everyone at the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility, 2 - West and Shamrock Gardens for giving loving care to our mother during her final days. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 23, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. For those who are unable to attend the funeral liturgy, condolences may be made at www.sjfh.net.
