Robert Leroy Ehninger, 87, of South bend died at 9:56 a.m. Sunday, September 29, 2013 in Buchanan Meadows, Buchanan, MI. Mr. Ehninger was born November 1, 1925 in South Bend to the late Edna P. (Whitmer) and Clarence L. Ehninger and was a lifetime area resident. On August 2, 1946 he married Lois Kathleen Udvardi who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Terry S. Fennig (Steve) of Bryant, IN; three sons, Lane D. Ehninger (Kim) and Randall R. Ehninger (Lynda) both of South Bend and Todd A. Ehninger (Laura) of Westchester, OH; nine grandchildren, Douglas (Rachel), Brett (Stacy), Ellie (Matt), Erin (Sanjay), Wes (Janelle), and Joel Ehninger and Chris (Chara), Andrew (Kristen) and Kinsey Fennig; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Kathryn Roederer and a brother, Charles W. Ehninger. Bob was a lifetime member and attender of Portage Prairie United Methodist Church. He also was a full time farmer his whole life and In keeping with his love of farming he was a longtime member of the St. Joseph County 4-H Fair Board as well as a member of and President of the Buchanan Coop Board of Directors. In 1996 he received the Conservation Farmer of The Year Award from St Joseph County Soil and Water Conservation District. He also enjoyed setting up for trade shows for the Fellowship of Christian Farmers International. He loved to fish and his sense of humor will be missed.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 3rd in Portage Prairie United Methodist Church, 2450 Orange Rd., Niles, MI with Rev. O’Ryan Rickard officiating. Committal services will follow in Portage Prairie Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church on Wednesday, October 2nd from 4 until 7 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
