SAN ANTONIO, TX - Kathleen M. Furukawa, aged 69, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born April 1, 1946, in South Bend, Indiana. She had attended Central High School in South Bend, completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and graduated with a master's degree in library science from the University of Hawaii. She had served as a VISTA Volunteer in West Virginia, a Dept. of Defense information specialist, and a Dept. of the Army medical reference librarian until her retirement from the Academy of Health Sciences at Fort Sam Houston. She was a charter member of San Antonio's Abiding Presence Lutheran Church and served as an officer and volunteer in the Fiber Artists of San Antonio. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Helen Laughlin. She is succeeded by her husband, T. Paul Furukawa; her brothers, Eugene and Richard, and many other valued family members by birth and by marriage. Services will be held Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at the Porter Loring North Chapel, 1604 and Gold Canyon, preceded at 3:00 by the visitation at Porter Loring North.
