Blaise John Suranyi
Nov. 2, 1947 - March 2, 2012
SOUTH BEND - Blaise John Suranyi, 64, passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side on Friday, March 2, 2012, at his home in South Bend, IN. Blaise was born November 2, 1947, in Gyor, Hungary, to Gizella Szaday and the late Joseph Suranyi. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Suranyi. On August 16, 1969, he married his high school sweetheart, Debbie Skelton. They were happily married for 43 years. Together they have three children: daughter, Amanda Holland (Jason) of South Bend, IN, and sons, Nicholas of South Bend, IN, and Andrew (Grace) of Mishawaka, IN; and five grandchildren. Blaise graduated from Central High School in 1967. He went to Indiana University where he received his Bachelor's of Arts and was in the Naval Aviation program. After graduation, he served as a pilot in the United States Navy. A longtime member of the South Bend Transportation Club, he received the 2010 Person of the Year award for outstanding contributions to the development and growth of the transportation industry. He worked as the Logistics Manager at AM General at the time of his retirement. Blaise was a kind, gentle, and loving husband, father and grandfather who loved life. His free time was spent enjoying the outdoors and sharing his passion for nature with those around him. He enjoyed sports cars, and one of his favorite activities was "Garage Night" on Tuesday nights with his closest friends. As an avid skier, he also looked forward to his annual guys getaway trip to Vail. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His children would like to express their deep appreciation to their mother for the amazing love and care she provided to him for the past three years. They feel truly blessed to have witnessed the power of love and the amazing strength they received from our Lord. Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 15th, from 4:30 - 6:00 pm at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 61770 Miami Road, South Bend, with a memorial service immediately following. Honoring the family's wishes, please do not send flowers; rather donations may be made in his memory to the Trinity Church Bereavement fund.
