Stanley "Corky" Michael Sokalski, 89, of New Kensington died at 7:41 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2005, in V.A. Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Jan. 28, 1916, in Pittsburgh, he lived in New Kensington his entire life.

He had worked for Bettors Clothing Store on 5th Ave. in the Men's Department for many years. Corky enjoyed and looked forward to eating and having coffee at Eazer's Restaurant, New Kensington, and talking to people at the restaurant. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in World War II in the 17th Squad A.D.G. as an Aircraft Wood Worker receiving the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. Corky was proud that he had served his country. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Rayma Quick Sokalski; a brother, Carl (Mary) Sokalski of Lower Burrell; stepson David Cook of Monroeville; stepdaughter Anna Cook (Tom) Balcerzak of South Bend, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mary Blama Sokalski; and four sisters, Stephania Pencak, Ceclia Zalupski, Angeline DeMolin and Laura Sokalski. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2005, in the JOSEPH J. CARDARO FUNERAL HOME, 1125 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington. Christian Funeral Mass will be held from St. Mary of Czestochowa Catholic Church in New Kensington on Saturday, July 9, 2005, at 8 a.m. with the Rev. Richard P. Karenbaur as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Lower Burrell.
