SOUTH BEND - Evelyn L. (Szczechowski) Deka passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Helathwin Specialized Care. She was born on July 14, 1914, in South Bend, to the late George and Stella (Starczewski) Szczechowski. Evelyn married John Deka, who preceded her in death on July 27, 1977. She is survived by one sister, Alice Cukrowicz of Mishawaka; and one brother, Daniel Szczechowski of Mishawaka. She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Evelyn enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and spending time with her family. A Catholic Funeral Service will take place on Friday, February 10, at 11:00 a.m in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
