Maude O. Klingaman of Notre Dame, IN, passed away on March 23,2023 at Dujarie House, Notre Dame, IN. Maude was born February 20, 1936 to the late Dallas and Bernice (Castator) Klingaman in Larwill, IN. Maude attended Larwill High School, graduating in 1955. She went on to Manchester College where she graduated in 1959 with a BA degree in Education, then earned her Master’s degree in Education from IU Bloomington. Maude taught primary school for over 40 years for the South Bend Community School Corporation. She started at Colfax School, then Coquillard School and retired teaching at Jefferson School. Maude was a Christian, loved her family and was a most caring and generous daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, cousin and a friend to many. Maude earned "The Super Volunteer" award and was featured in the South Bend Tribune in 2013, volunteering more than 7,100 hours at the St. Joseph County Library, earning her the forever "golden" library card. She also volunteered at Hope Rescue Mission, Humane Society of St. Joseph County, Memorial Hospital, and Studebaker Mansion as a Docent. She was a faithful member serving and attending Westminster Presbyterian Church, South Bend, IN for many years. Maude enjoyed reading, traveling, movies at the theatre and watching tv. She had a real love for ALL kinds of animals. Again, ALL kinds of animals! Surviving Maude is her brother and Franklin (Virginia) Klingaman of Tekonsha, MI, and sisters Melba Devenney of Edwardsburg, MI. and Edith (Philip-D) Petrie of South Bend, IN. Preceding Maude in her death, along with her parents were her brothers Darl (Rolene-D) Klingaman, Phillip (Sheryl-D) Klingaman, and LaVon (Bonnie-D) Klingaman, and her sister, Faith Doolittle, all of Tekonsha, MI.A very very special "THANK YOU" to those who cared for Maude at Holy Cross Village at Notre Dame, Helen Schubert Villa, Assisted Living and Dujarie House, Notre Dame, IN., and Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Maude's memory be given to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Services for Maude will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023, Palmer Funeral Home, Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN; with visitation at 10:00 AM and the service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Highland Cemetery, South Bend, IN. Palmer Funeral Home-Welsheimer North Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
