MISHAWAKA - Rose L. VanderHeyden, 76, of Shamrock Drive, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away on Sunday evening, Oct. 1, in the emergency room of St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka.
Mrs. Vander Heyden was born on Dec. 13, 1923, in Mishawaka. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Mahank, his wife Madeline, and by a brother, August Mahank.She was a lifetime area resident. Rose and her husband Albert were the co-owners of VanderHeyden Travel Agency in Mishawaka, and retired in 1987. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka. On April 10, 1948, as the former Rose Mahank, she married Albert R. VanderHeyden, who survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Laureen Wilson of Racine, Wis.; a son, Raymond VanderHeyden of Basking Ridge, N.J.; a brother, Dr. Camiel (Catherine) Mahank of Glendale, Ariz.; a sister, Mary Mahank Barnes of South Bend, Ind.; and by two sisters-in-law, Vera Mahank of Florida and Marguerite VanderHeyden Barrow, who resides in Osceola, Ind. Friends may call from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 4, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 West 8th Street, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be said at 3 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Robert Yast officiating. Entombment will follow at Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Vander Heyden may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
