CROWN POINT - Andy Guentert, 57, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 21. He was born of Mary and Joseph Guentert in South Bend, Indiana, graduated from St. Joseph High School and apprenticed in watchmaking, which became his lifelong passion and his profession. He had advanced professional training in Neuchatel, Switzerland, and was an active member of the American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute. He is survived by his wife, Becky (Cox) Guentert, whom he met later in life and was the love of his life; and eight brothers and sisters: Anne Cassler (Humble, TX), Joseph Guentert (Charlotte, NC), Louise Springer (Eagle River, WI), Christine Morningstar (Rocky Mount, NC), Mary Kopp (Greenlawn, NY), Lawrence Guentert (West Point, IN), Margaret Simmons (Ft. Myers, FL), and Paul Guentert MD (South Bend, IN). He has a large extended family, including over 40 brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.He was loved by his family throughout his life for his well-known quick wit and his extraordinarily gentle disposition, kindness, acceptance of others, loyalty, friendships. Andy was an avid fan of Notre Dame football and an amateur historian and also an accomplished bowler. He was adored by children and he was considered “favorite uncle” of more than 20 nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, each of whom he babysat, entertained, and taught the “secret handshake.” He counseled, advised, and supported them and remained very close to them as adults. Andy's life was rich with close relationships with family and friends. A memorial visitation will be held Monday, June 27, 2016 from 4-8 pm at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 10 am at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Kankakee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family's wishes.
