SOUTH BEND - Joseph Gnott, 78, of Meridian Nursing Center-Cardinal, died at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Gnott retired from O'Brien Corp. He was born Dec. 31, 1915, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. In South Bend, he married Wanda Winkel. She died July 18, 1978. He is survived by a daughter, Gloria J. Damp of South Bend; four granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; and a brother, Fred of South Bend. He was a veteran of World War II, past chaplain of Veterans of Foreign Wars Golden Hill Post 8748, and was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 8748. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Kaniewski Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to any charity.
