SOUTH BEND - James L. "Jim" Stevens, 61, residing in South Bend, passed away at 12:35 p.m. Saturday, December 20, in his home surrounded by his family. He was born July 26, 1947 in Chicago, IL, the son of James A. and Colette M. (Hartman) Stevens, and has lived in South Bend since he was 9 years old, coming from Chicago. On August 16, 1986 in South Bend, he married the former Lashell J. McAfee. Mr. Stevens is survived by his wife, Lashell J. Stevens, and three daughters, Karen M. Stevens, Colette K. Stevens and Kelly N. Stevens, all of South Bend and son, Shawn M. (Leanne) Stevens of South Bend. Mr. Stevens served honorably in the National Guard from 1965-1971. He retired in 2002 after thirty-five years as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. He was a member of the Corvette Club and Southlawn United Methodist Church. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. today, December 28, in the Southlawn United Methodist Church, 60756 U.S. 31 South, South Bend. Dr. Joe Baunoch and Rev. Ron Dixon will officiate. A private burial will take place Monday at Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3 to 4 p.m. today in the Church. A luncheon will follow the services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Ct. South Bend, IN 46637 or to the American Cancer Society , 601 W.
