Patricia R. Ransberger May 29, 1926 - Apr. 11, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Patricia Ruth Ransberger, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 11th, at Sterling House of South Bend after an extended illness. Pat was born on May 29, 1926. Pat was daughter to the late Clifford (Dick) Zobrosky and Ruth Zobrosky, both of whom are deceased. She married the late James K. Ransberger in 1948 and had three children, Jim Ransberger (Patti) of Port Huron, MI, Tim Ransberger of Grand Rapids, MI, and Cindy (Ransberger) Shelley (Thomas) of Granger. They all survive along with five grandchildren she adored, Nichole Ransberger, Tim (T.J.) Ransberger, and Michael, Christopher, and Kathleen Shelley; and her brother, Louis Zobrosky (Del) of Granger and his children and grandchildren. Pat lived her entire life in South Bend, and was a long time member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church of South Bend. She chose nursing as her profession and worked as an R.N. at St. Joseph's hospital in Mishawaka, where she helped deliver thousands of area babies. Pat loved nursing and delivering babies. As head nurse of the Obstetrical Department of St. Joseph's hospital in Mishawaka, she initiated the program of allowing fathers into the delivery room as well as many other groundbreaking programs for her time. She had a warm and generous spirit that could light up a room, a great laugh, a genuine love for friends and family, and a marvelously entertaining repertoire of stories from her past. She loved the music of Frank Sinatra and saw him perform at the Palace Theater (now the Morris Civic Auditorium) when she was a "bobbysoxer" of eighteen. A picture of Pat with her nursing class from the forties hangs in the new St. Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 17th at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2822 Corpus Christi Dr. with Rev. Daryl Rybiki officiating. Committal services and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 16th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd. where a parish rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in memory of Pat may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Ln., Mishawaka, IN, 46545. Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at www.welsheimer.com.
