He lived in South Bend and Granger his entire life and graduated Penn High School, class of 1970. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1970 during the Vietnam conflict. He was 82nd Airborne, a sniper, post boxing champion and served as Honor Guard. Lester, also known as Lett to family, like his father and brothers, belonged to Local 150 Union of Operating Engineers. Also like his father and brothers, he loved auto racing and drove stock cars at South Bend Motor Speedway, New Paris, Plymouth and Jones, MI. Lett was a soft-hearted soul and loved all animals. He rescued or adopted several dogs and especially missed his last companion, Molly. He married Gwendolyn Bruce on March 24, 1990. They would have celebrated their 32nd anniversary in March. Lett is survived by his wife, Gwen McLean and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret McLean; his sister, Margaret Ann Freeman; his brothers, Robert and Ronald McLean; and his son, Dustin McLean. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private graveside ceremony at a later date.
