NILES - Barbara J. DePoy, 80 years old, of the Niles-Edwardsburg area, passed to her rest on Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, just 6 days before her 81st birthday, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, after a brief illness. Barbara was born Dec. 29, 1930, in Eau Claire, MI, the daughter of Robert and Helen (Gerlach) Zuhl. She graduated from Southwestern Michigan College with an Associate Degree in arts and was a teacher's assistant for Brookside Learning at Cassopolis. She formerly worked at Edwardsburg School in the cafeteria and was a clerk at Smith's Hardware in Edwardsburg. Barbara loved to be with friends and family. She was married Oct. 3, 1948, in Eau Claire, to Edwin R. DePoy, who survives with their children, Cindy (Jim) Wagner of Bartonville, TX, Jeffrey DePoy of Pittsburg, TX, and Keith (Sara) DePoy of St. Johns, MI. One son, Darl Edwin DePoy, has passed. Other survivors are 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a sister, Margaret (Edward) Street of Eau Claire, MI, and a brother, Robert (Margaret) Zuhl of Dowagiac. One brother, Donald Zuhl, has passed. Friends and family may gather at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main, Edwardsburg, on Monday from 5-8 PM. The Service of Remembrance will be Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church, 16791 Cleveland Road, Granger, where she was a member. Her minister, Pastor Steven Mischke, will officiate. Burial will follow at Smith's Chapel Cemetery on Redfield Road, between Niles and Edwardsburg. It is requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to her church, Peace Lutheran Church, whose address has already been listed. Arrangements are by the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg.
