SOUTH BEND - Tillie Catherine Gnott, 93, passed away Monday, March 17, 2008, in Memorial Hospital of South Bend. Tillie was born on September 14, 1914, in South Bend, Indiana, to John and Catherine (Chudzinski) Palkowski. She was a cook at LaSalle High School for 17 years, had been employed with the former Bendix Corporation, Miller's Department Store and Woolworth Department Store. On October 20, 1942, Tillie married Fred Gnott, who survives. Surviving with her husband of 65 years are her daughters, Beverly (George) Smith, Barbara (Kenneth) Magiera, Diane (Cas) Gorski, Debbie (Joseph) Zaworski, all of South Bend, Indiana; grandchildren, Terri (John) Baker, Scott (Chris) Mead, Mark Mead, Tammie (Paul Jr.) Hagedorn, Angie (Brian) Fox, Sheila (Dean) Chandler, Shelby (Shane) Carbiener and Shannon (Adam) Jannik; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Heather, Britney, Taylor, Hunter, Aaron, Joseph, Kaylin and Sidney; and her sister, Florence Rafalski of South Bend, Indiana. Brothers, Al and Bernard J. Palkowski, preceded her in death. Tillie was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff on 9 South at Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2008, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2008, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 3526 St. John Way, South Bend, IN 46628.
