SOUTH BEND - Benedict Joseph Rajter, 99 7/8, passed away Friday, February 26, 2016 at his home in Fort Gratiot, MI. Ben was born March 14, 1916 in South Bend to the late Francis and Josephine (Lapczynski) Rajter. On June 21, 1941 in South Bend, Benedict married his loving wife, Alice (Zakrocki) Rajter; she preceded him in death on September 24, 2012. Benedict was also preceded in death by sister, Irene Rajter. Survivors of Ben include his children, Patricia (Mark) Polack of Fort Gratiot, MI, and Richard “Rick” (Judy) Rajter of South Bend; grandchildren, Damian and Zackary Polack, Leah Rose, Eric Rajter and a great-granddaughter, Ava. Ben retired in 1981 from South Bend Lathe where he was employed for 46 years. He was a parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Ben was a member of the Breezers Club and a volunteer for La Casa. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, ship watching on the Great Lakes, and working in his yard. Ben also enjoyed assembling jigsaw puzzles and donating them framed to the Healthwin Rehabilitation Center.Visitation for Benedict is 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm Thursday, March 3, 2016 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a Rosary will be prayed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, March 4, 2016 in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made towards the restoration of St. Adalbert Church, 2505 W.
