STAN D. CUKROWICZ

SOUTH BEND - Stan D. Cukrowicz, 85, residing in South Bend, passed
away at 4:35 a.m. Thursday, February 26, 2009 at Southfield Village,
South Bend. He was born August 8, 1923 in the River Park
neighborhood of South Bend, the son of Stanley P. & Catherine T.
(Kruczynski) Cukrowicz. On June 15, 1946 in St. Monica's Catholic
Church, Mishawaka, he was united in marriage to the love of his life,
Mary Catherine Hoerstman. Together, they enjoyed more than sixty
years of marriage until her passing on April 15, 2007. He was also preceded in death
by a grandson, Matthew Stachowiak on July 2, 2000. Mr. Cukrowicz is survived by his
daughter, Cathy Stachowiak of Mishawaka, his son and daughter-in-law, Don &
Stephanie Cukrowicz of South Bend, and six grandchildren, Jennifer LaMar, Amy
Freemon, Mark Stachowiak, Montana Haines, Dakota Haines, and Zachary Cukrowicz.
Also surviving are six great-grandchildren. He was a graduate of Mishawaka High
School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWI. He then
became employed as an Engineer with the Uniroyal Corp, and retired from there
following thirty-eight years of faithful service. He was a longtime member of St. Jude
Catholic Church where he served as an Usher. Stan was also a member of St. Vincent
DePaul Society, and was the recipient of its Top Hat Award in May of 2007. Stan was a
loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives
he has touched. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday,
February 28, 2009 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend.
Rev. John Delaney will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn
Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral
Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, where a parish
rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. today. Contributions in memory of Stan D.
Cukrowicz may be offered to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, 3408 Ardmore Trail,
South Bend, IN 46628.
