MISHAWAKA - Alice Makielski, 81, of Mishawaka, passed away in her home on Sunday, June 26, 2011. She was born on June 30, 1929, to the late Walter and Stella Nowacki. On August 18, 1951, she married Norman S. Makielski, who survives. Alice is also survived by her daughter, Carol (Paul) Gurson of Mishawaka; two sons, Tom (Linda) Makielski of Mishawaka and Jim (Tammy) Makielski of South Bend; a son-in-law, Ken Lapkiewicz; eight grandchildren, Kenny, Ryan, Kristi, Angie, Sean, Kelli and Sarah and Nancy; and by three great-granddaughters, Kate, Brittany and Emma. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Lapkiewicz; four sisters, Monica, Agnes, Florence and Sister Angelita; and by three brothers, Joe, Steve and Henry. Mrs. Makielski was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church, South Bend. She enjoyed baking and taking care of her family. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2011, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Holy Cross Church, with entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
