LaVerna H. Hesch, 91, died Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Havenwood Care Center, Bemidji, MN. LaVerna Hortense LaFree was born November 4, 1920 in Detroit, MI to George and Clara (LaCluyze) LaFree. She grew up in South Bend, IN. LaVerna attended Madison High School and South Bend Business College. She won Grand Champion at the Indiana State Fair for sewing.On October 11, 1941 she married Henry Hesch in South Bend, IN where she raised her family. She enjoyed bridge, was a member of the Rosary Society and loved spending time with her family. LaVerna is survived by her sons, Dennis (Ethel) Hesch of Bemidji, MN and Michael (Cindy Anderson) Hesch of Bemidji, MN; daughter, Cynthia (Joe) Garrett of Lilburn, GA; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Elnora Leininger of Mishawaka, IN and Rosemary (Donald) Gilpin of South Bend, IN; brother, James (Marianne) LaFree of South Bend, IN and stepbrother, Roger (Dorothy) Mathia of South Bend, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry Hesch; two daughters, Sharon Hesch and Judy Hannasch; brother, George LaFree Jr. and sister, Florine Baker. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 12, 2012 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 63568 U.S. 31 South, Lakeville, IN. Interment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN where a rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the services Monday in church.
