Myrtle M. Abbiehl, 93, of South Bend, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 28, 2015, in Healthwin Specialized Care. Myrtle was born August 8, 1921 in Walkerton, a daughter of the late Russell and Martha (Fink) Geisler. She grew up in Mishawaka and was a 1940 graduate of Mishawaka High School. Myrtle married M. Wayne Abbiehl in Warsaw on May 21, 1941. The couple lived the majority of their married life in South Bend. Myrtle was a manager in the boy’s department at Goldblatt’s. She also was a clerk in the service department at Yeager Buick. Myrtle was a member of North Liberty Church of the Brethren. She was a talented seamstress and made many quilts for her church. Myrtle loved having and tending a large vegetable garden. She canned and shared much of her produce with others.
Myrtle’s surviving family includes a son, Michael (Shari) Abbiehl; a daughter-in-law, Carol Abbiehl; a brother, Robert Geisler; four grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren. Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; a son, David Abbiehl; two sisters, Barbara Lema and Ruth Lundry; a brother, Herbert Geisler; and three grandchildren. Following Myrtle’s wishes there will be no viewing and a private burial took place in Bremen Cemetery, Bremen. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, July 19, in North Liberty Church of the Brethren in North Liberty with Pastor Don Carroll officiating. Contributions in Myrtle’s memory are suggested to North Liberty Church of the Brethren. Arrangements are under the care of Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka.
